4001 truss rods revisited

I would like to thank the man himself John Hall for helping me with the 4001 truss rod problem i was having . I just got the bass on thursday and finally had a chance to check out the damage . The bass itself is super clean but i noticed that all the wear and tear on the bass was done by people who didnt know what they were doing trying to fix it .The truss rod access looked like it was hacked on by a butcher . However i did what john suggested and cut off the truss rod ends and re threaded them . Put them back in and adjusted them gently with back pressure and i got the neck perfectly straight . Probably the straightest the neck on this has ever been . To all of those who have never adjusted the truss rods on there 4001 i would suggest taking your time and asking questions Before you even try it . If you are a true rick fan you must learn how to do this yourself . its obviouse to me that even most guitar tecs dont know how to do it . Thanks John and thanks all as well for you input . By the way i played it last night and it plays and sounds killer .

I did the same thing about 2 years ago to two 4001's and also got the idea from JH, and also started a new thread to thank him.

I must confess that when I asked about the cap bypass a week or so ago and I saw a reply by John Hall I thought someone else on the forum had the same name as.....well you know.

It was several days later that I hit the profile and saw that indeed it was "the" John Hall who replied to my question.To say that I was astounded would be an understatement.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to help those with questions about your instruments.

In my case the operation was a success and I prefer the sound with the cap bypassed.

It truly is a gorgeous bass.
