The $3.85 shipping is probably a default setting on his ebay preferences. If you don't reset the postage amount for your new auction it automatically re-enters the amount that you entered for your previous auction. I have accidently done this on my auctions in the past!

I received pictures today. He said that he was only sending photos to those requesting them. It looks pretty sweet. I asked him he he would accept COD so i can examine it. I also want to check the serial number. So anyone taking a crack at it?

I'm seriously looking at this. If so, I'll have to move a few pieces. I'm even thinking of flying in to view it.

Mike, let me know. I don't want to get into a bidding war. Did you receive the pictures? Let me know what you think. I will let you know what he says about the COD.

It looks all original to me. I had a '58 that I sold on ebay last year before I discovered the forum. That had routing and a lot of unoriginal parts. The only thing I see here is the thumbrest missing. I can live without that. I could get one from Ted. There might also be a chance that it is refinished. Brian - did you note the gleam from the photos? Makes me think twice....

Look closely at the email addresses that the pictures where sent to.
Looks like Michael Anthony may be interested in this one too.
Wow, what a beauty she is, and only some minor ware on the back.

According to the color time line, the bass was available in several different colors. According to Vintage Guitar price guide, it should be Autumnglo.

My tax check hit the bank and that CS fell through, so this is tempting if it's all original. It's historic.

My guess is that it will go from $7500-10,000

Mark, I have never seen any 50s 4000 bass that wasn't mapleglo, natural...whatever. Never seen an autumnglo or fireglo bass from the 50s. Your price guesstimate might be right! No question -- it's historic!

Mike, It was nice to speak with you this afternoon. Way to throw caution to the wind. The seller and I have exchanged a few emails this afternnon. He seems genuinely shocked at the response he has been getting. I think he has come off the prototype thing. I think he has been inundated with emails and may have received some erroneous info, nevertheless it will be fun to see where it goes and for how much. Good Luck. You have already outbid me!
