Well, I did it. Turns out the tag said "D8" which is part of the SN. I'm sure is it a Cheyenne. SN lookup indicates April 1995 build date. It's a little dirty, but it plays super!! Paid $535.

So, now I need to know the customary way to clean up the Cheyenne finish. The fretboard appears to be plain maple and it has a grayish cast to it from finger oil and dirt. The walnut parts look like they could stand a little oil or the like. All of the gold fixtures are in perfect condition and look like they could use a simple wash with soap and water and maybe a touch of mild silvererware polish.

Suggestions appreciated.

(As you can tell, I'm pretty excited about this find!)

Richard, if you go to the RIC web site and look on page 7 of the owner's manual, it has a section called "Oil Finish Maintenance".

Man, that is a deal! I paid $1,000 for mine last November. Do they have any bargains on 1972 4001's?
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.
