Vox/JangleBox

Post by Scastles »

I'm getting a noticeable hiss when I have my JangleBox switched to bright...it's not there in normal or dark. I'm running it through a Vox Cambridge.
Peter, I know you have one...who else, and have any experienced this?

Stan: Yes you will notice more noise through the Janglebox with the treble booster on "stun."

You will find that this is a function of the type of pickup you have as well as the volume and amp type. As long as you are not getting other interference at this switch position I would consider it to be par for the course when it comes to any treble booster.

I correct for this by keeping the switch in the middle position, and turning up the treble pot on the amplifier and the guitar.

Perhaps Jangleman will stop by with his point of view.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Haven't worked it that way but will give it a shot, Peter.

(PS...ordered the Vox History book, think I need it)

As Peter says, *any* treble boost will produce some noise when the guitar is "idling" (not being played). I also agree with Peter that volume and amp type have the greatest affect in creating excess noise.

Another significant variable, obvious though it may seem, is where the guitar is positioned relative to the amp. If I move at least five feet from my amp, I get virtually no noise -- even with the treble boost on. And I'm playing through a JC120, which is a bright amp to begin with (I use the treble boost somewhat sparingly with my JC120). In any event, once I actually start playing, any treble hiss drops off altogether. And when recording with JangleBox, I get no hiss in the signal.

Steve, I worked it from the normal position, as suggested, making the adjustments on my amp and everything worked out fine...no hiss
