Paul using Rickenbacker Bass Live in '65 or '66

Post by karl_pando »

I read someplace that Paul was using the Rickenbacker Bass as a backup for live dates in 1965 & 1966. Are there any actual pictures of him playing the Rickenbacker Bass live on stage in 1965 & 1966?

He did take it on the Beatles' world tour in 1966, in some cases the Cavern Hofner AND the Rickenbacker are present....There are plenty of pics showing the Rickenbacker on stage in 1966.

The only pics I've seen of Paul using the Rickenbacker that were taken prior to 1967 are of him in the studio.

Yeah I meant backstage, I never even knew he had it onstage with him. I remember seeing pictures of it backstage that I thought were from Japan.

There are photos of the 4001S and George's SG laying behind the drum riser as backups.

There is this photo of McCartney back stage holding both basses. I assume it's before their performance. But as everyone else has said, i've never seen a photo of him using it onstage during that time period. But there are photos of it laying on the stage beside Ringo from this period.
I'll look around to see if I can find those pics. I'll post them if I do.

the only pic I could find was of mal evans laying the rick out backstage, it seems they lugged the rickenbacker bass around japan, usa & germany in 1966 but i see no pics of paul actually playing it live on stage.

in fact i don't think he is seen used it live on stage till he was touring with wings.

Too Bad He Didn't! It would have been a nice combination for he and George to be playing fireglo Rics. Just think. When Lennon was playing the fireglo Rose Morris 1996 and then if George played his 360/12 and Paul his 4001S...that would have been a great picture. All in matching suits and guitars. That would've been cool
