I was at a local music store a couple of years ago. They had a "display" setup that caught my eye. It was a few older microphones. I could've cared less about them. I wanted the display "table". They had set up two vintage RIC cases ('60s) and set the mikes on top. I asked if the cases were for sale. I was getting ready to haggle with them until they said that I could have both cases for ......$50. total.
Just last week I won an Ebay auction for a used RIC case (SKB) for $37.
I got a good deal on a very nice 1993 Model 350 and a 1966 Model 450/12 from a guy that you know in South Carolina. Does that guy have anything else for sale?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
Yes, John, saw that auction...couldn't tell which model it was for.
But I'm sure you've got something to fit it!

Maybe it's not a GREAT deal, but I scored my Fireglo 330 on eBay for $700BIN sometime last year. It was in perfectly mint condition, not a nick or a spot on it.
Since then i've constantly checked eBay for a similar deal, none has come.
I did pretty well on both my new Ricks (a couple of hun' less than "average").
GCREP has a 2001 or 2002 381 up right now for $2499.99 starting bid! That's substantially more than I paid for mine new. I've seen a nuber of used 660-12s sell on the fleabay, again used, again, equal or more than I paid for my new one.
Not tooting my horn, as much as indicating that working the web among the bigger and smaller Rick dealers can save you some $$$ as well as avoiding the wait of a special dealer order.

Tis the first today and I was wondering if JW was "foolin" with that case story....
Yes, those deals are still out there and probably one of the best concerns the 64 4001 that I picked up last month. The previous owner found it at a trucker sale by the side of the road for the princely sum of...$200.
I paid a little more than the current price of 3 reissue horseshoes for it...
For me, it's a toss up: (1) my 1993 370/12v64 FG (possibly the only right-handed one) for $875 plus shipping; (2) my 1977 4000 FL BG for $400; (3) my 1967 Gibson ES-335TDC, for $300 back in 1969. All the guitars were one-owners, too!

My bargain is my 1980 330FG that I bought recently off of ebay for £500. This may not seem cheap to our American & Canadian friends, but it was one of the x braced 24 fret models, but with the SMALL headstock. It is pretty well dinged, but still looks a million dollars in class & I absolutely love it. £500 does not buy you a Ric in the UK, let alone one like this.
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
John, do you still have Cyril's 360? I have George Alexander's '68 4001, although I didn't get as good a deal on it. (Too bad you're in SC and I'm in CA ... I would love for those two instruments to have a reunion!)
My basses are Rickenbackers. My synthesizers and recording gear are analog.
