Where is this "back room" with the unfinished guitars, and how do I get in there? Hey-zeus, man! Those are incredible.

Steve,

Anything I did not sell for John back then was placed in the factory museum or was in such bad shape that it could only be used for measurements for the reissue and limited edition models.

Back in those days I did a lot of business with Rickenbacker, was friends with several of the long time employees, as well as John Hall. I was even engaged to a girl that worked as their receptionist for a while. For various reasons, some of which are my doing, much of this is no longer the case.

I am currently contemplating opening another retail store, as DFW does not have the quality of guitar shops you would expect, and no currently authorized Rickenbacker dealers. Obviously I would have to repair my relationship with Mr. Hall and Rickenbacker before seriously putting any plans into motion, as I would not want to dive back in those waters without carrying new Rickenbacker instruments once again.

I do not know the entire story, but know the John had given Roger a replacement 331-6 out of his personal collection around the time Roger returned the 341-12SF. The 331-6 is the one Roger had on Letterman. "

On his 2003 tour, Roger was playing the 341-12. It seems strange that he would play a 6-string version on Letterman when he was touring with a 12-string model at that time. I know because I saw him at the Wolf Trap Barns with it. I also saw the Letterman show (where he just played with the band), and assumed it was a 12-string. I can't swear it was one the other.

Oops... wrong. It was 2002. Sorry.

Roger's 341-12SF was placed in the Hall of Fame Museum at roughly the same time the Byrds were inducted. Roger may have retrieved the guitar from them for a period of time. He could only have done that if the contract for placing it on display had expired.

As I mentioned earlier I saw the guitar on display in January 2004 in the HOF Museum, and it is my understanding that it is still there. If he did pick it up from the museum he has since returned it there.
