Voting Buttons

Post by red_rob »

Apologies if this has been suggested hundreds of times before, but wouldn't it be cool to set up on-going surveys on the forum where people could vote for their favourite Ric related things? Such as favourite colour options, toaster vs high gain, R vs trapeze, blueburst: hot or not etc? You could either have a selected one each month or so or just keep certain ones indefinately. I just think it'd be interesting to see what the consensus was on certain issues. Cheers

that'd be nice, but then we couldnt track the oppinions....as in...Id like to know who dosent or does like blueburst....if i were emailing Alex Smith....for example...and I said..I really like blueburst, but he dosent like blueburst and goes into a rage and murders 20 people because he is infuriated with people asking him if he likes blueburst...all 20 deaths could have been avoided simply by asking the question and having people post their oppinions so that everyone can see who likes what....and they dont keep asking him if he likes blueburst....a chilling reality......jk

See my reasoning? lol

Crikey! Maybe I hadn't thought this through enough!

I see your point Alex, but a running total would be nice though eh? Useful marketing info for Mr Hall too...

I kind of like your idea Rob, but agree with Alex that we get to know each other on the forum by reading each others posts & we quickly get to learn what individuals preferences are.
I am not sure that anonymous yes or no questionaires are particularly valid, as things are rarely black & white. For instance, I know some views that love blue boy on smaller bodied 620's for example, but hate it on large bodied 330's.
This has been discussed before, but I don't think personaly, that the views of this forum are typical of the Ric buying public. We are fanatics by definition, otherwise we wouldn't be bothering to spend rediculous hours reading & discussing everything from a screw that holds the pick guard down, to the latest masterpiece of art & engineering that is a new Rickenbacker. This being the case, I am also not sure how relevent our views would be to John for marketing purposes.
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

IMO yes/no polls are fine for some political and social issues but those who tick a box are only expressing their opinion in the broadest possible sense (are you Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Labour?).

To my mind, a huge percentage of opinions have qualification or comment attached and can rarely be brought down to a simple 'yay' or 'nay'.

I think it's important in this forum that these be aired because it adds a bit of spice and gets the juices flowing (and we all need that, don't we!!).

However, if it was decided that polls be introduced here, there would have to be a third box - a 'Yes, no, maybe, but........' box would be mandatory!!

It would be good for marketing, and in that case we might as well have veryone voice their oppinion for 6 months or whatever and then lock the topic after posting a final standings

Good point Howard - the poll would definately require a "5th knob" as it were. You're right guys, it is more interesting to discuss this stuff in detail. I stand corrected.
