Paul Says No to Rickenbacker
He has donated a few for auction. I think his Epipohone Texan and his 60 Gold Top. Remember the first Hofner was stolen.

Dan, the story I got was he traded Rick studio gear for the Burst. I have no idea what.
Paul has never donated any of his personal instruments to charity, although he has signed several Hofners to auction for causes he believes in. I don't blame him for not parting with any of his instruments. Would you ever sell any of your gear if money would never again be an issue and you knew others would use your association with it to profit?
His Gold Top is a 1957. His Sunburst Les Paul is a 1960 (and a factory second at that.)

I just read (and I'll have to find the article) that he was donating his Texan to Adopt-a-minefield. Maybe it wasn't "the", but I will check it out. I had learned from Frank Trevino that he had just about closed a deal with Hofner to autograph 100 Hofners and auction them off for breast cancer research. This was obviously after Linda had passed away. Frank later advised me that the deal fell through and that someone at Hofner had paid a dear price for pissing Paul off. As far as I know, Frank always had very valuable information.

Brian, Acoustic Guitar magazine recently interviewed Paul, it was a Q&A about his playing technique, his gear and bits about The Beatles, but the main point of the article was to promote Gibson's Epiphone reissue of the Texan in 3 phases 1st lefty or righty with pick guard in up position like the righty Paul flipped to make it a lefty this will be made in Montana sell for 20k proceeds to go to adopt a minefield, 2nd batch made in Japan for 7k , 3rd run in Korea for 2k I believe. I'm not quite sure prices of the latter two, but they are expensive. One note the 20k has been reproduce with the nicks and scuffs of Paul's I don't think he plans donating "The Texan" to adopt a mine field.

The 'Adopt-A-Minefield' auction has already taken place. They auctioned one of the $20,000 replicas, which Paul signed. I have beenunable to find out what it sold for.
Initially this came about because Paul wanted his Texan replicated so he didn't have to take the 'Yesterday' guitar on the road with him. He did this with his Hofner a few years ago.
Paul agreed to the signature model guitar because Gibson is giving a percentage of the proceeds from each one sold to this charity. I believe the 'non-replica' signature models are being made in Montana and Japan.
I have been trying to get an answer from Gibson/Epiphone as to whether they will make any of these as actual right & left handed instruments, instead of flipped both directions. The question seems to confuse them.
