As to making a V63 surround into a mid '60s type it would be very close but the taper is slightly longer, but not enough to make a difference visually.

The sides of the surround might be tough to replicate ,but an excellent idea with all the talent hear on the forum i cant see why there it would be impossible Ted ,Jeff,Sergio, opinions,ideas

I have a friend with a sheet-metal business. He stamps steel lamps all day and he told me he could replicate ANYTHING in sheet-metal.

Another question! Which mounting plate shape did McCartney's 4001S have originally? I know that Mark Arnquist made a new pickguard for his bass, I assume it was shaped like Paul's original pickguard. Compare the shape of his and the '63 in the Smith book. Was Paul's HS surround like that of the '63 with the rounded corners as on the late V63/current C64 surrounds or squared off as on Chris Squire's?

I reversed the Smith '63 image to better see the shapes for comparison. What do you think?

It was just like squires they all were squared off .The 63 in the smith book has a reissue surround I'm sure of it look at surrounds of the 50s,60s there all squared off accept for the 63 in the smith book.all early v63and cs's were more period correct than the later ones,why is a mystery

Why is the corner cut in a curve like that on Paul's bass, if not to match the curve on the surround? Squire's and others have a much tighter radius to the corner, which makes sense if the corners on the surround was more squared off. Is this just another magical mystery tour?
