Shipping to the confluence
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about shipping stuff to the confluence. Yeah, I know I can Fedex the axes.
I was thinking more along the lines of getting a crate, sending my two basses, the SWR redhead and my 6 guitar stand so we can all have a little fun.
How do they ship to NAMM?

Mark, maybe instead of shipping your basses, you could get some SKB Bass Safe cases. When you travel with them, security people might question you more about them since they are not as familiar with them as conventional guitar cases. When I've travelled with a bass in one, it was very safe.

This is the SKB Bass Safe for you guys who are unfamiliar with it. The "skateboard like" wheels at the bottom make rolling it around easy. First you put your bass in a good gig bag, then you put it in the case and you can lock it up with one or two good padlocks.

It depends on your airport security facilities.
You gotta use the TSA approved locks. Even tho some of them morons don't know how to open it. So they bust the lock.
Some airports allow the TSA security to inspect your bag, then you can have THEM lock it. You cannot touch the bag once its been scanned.
Of course there may be no problem coming into Columbus, but leaving...
My experiences with these guys/gals is that the security policy depends upon how their day is going.
Sad but true...

Every time I have used the Bass Safe, I've had little problem. The most hassle is at JFK airport in NY. They have always had the tightest security of any airport I've gone through even pre 9/11. At worst I was with the Bass Safe when they inspected it, then I walked it all the way to the plane and someone took it from me on the jetway and put it on the plane as I boarded. It can be a hassle no matter what kind of case your bass is in.
Many times guitar players can walk on the plane with their guitars.
Funny, you get all these fragile and do not drop stickers to put on your case at the ticket counter in the airport...then a baggage handler comes to take it and THROWS it on the cart! Dropping is a no-no, but throwing is permitted.

What I did was purchase this:

I will carefully secure the instruments in the case. Might ship it rather than fly it, and if it doesn't get banged up, I may return it after the confluence, unless I really love it.
