Also the TRC says 4001, I thought that 4001 was added after the release of the 4003, which would make this an 80's era 4001 !!!!!

Exept it has checkered binding...

Scott, the jackplate picture I included in my posting above was at the appraiser's site, the link to which is now editted out of the auction.

I will give the seller credit for revising the ad. There have seen many such "odd" auctions that continue on in spite of repeated "enlightenmnet" by the cogniscenti (sp).

My July '73 plexi TRC says MODEL 4001 MADE IN U.S.A. (it is all caps on the TRC).

My February '75 4001 has Model 4001 on the TRC. Not sure if it's all caps-I'm at work and the bass is at the rehearsal studio...but I'm pretty sure it's original (I have had the bass since early '81 and I've never altered anything on it) and that the 4003 wasn't out at that point.
Above e-mail is inactive. try ed_ardzinski@**** where **** is Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. I tend to see things inthe hotmail box quicker...

My 72 4001FL says model 4001 on it and made in USA also but model 4001 is on top of made in USA unlike all my later 4001's, and the lettering is smaller and is silkscreened or what ever you call the older TRC's. The bass is all original. It's also all capitols.

Oops, I totally misread when I quoted Jim...

Yes, my old '72 had "MODEL 4001" with "MADE IN USA" underneath.
