V63 cases

Post by seabass »

Did the early V63's come in silver cases? If not, when did they start? I have a '91 V63 Mapleglo that came in a black tolex case. (As far as the quality of the case, it is more plush than my CS silver case). I am considering selling the V and I thought I saw a thread where someone said that all V63's had silver cases. (So maybe the guy at the store where I got mine gave me a 4003 case by mistake). I guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, but it would be nice if it was the right one.
And by the way, this forum is absolutely FANTASTIC! I thought I knew alot about Ricks but I've learned quite a bit from you guys.
Thanks!!

... even my '98 4003FG had the silver "mint, vintage" case.

I believe all the v63's came in the silver re-issue cases.

The '98 V63 I got from Chris had the older molded SKB case. It is possible it is not original to the bass as Chris bought it second hand.

Dave, forgot to say welcome to the forum. You are right, the depth of knowledge here is quite breathtaking. Good luck with your sale if you decide to do that. The cost of a new 'vintage' silver case in the UK is £222.00 by the way....!

...hope this isn't hijacking...

What is the upcharge from the Standard to the Vintage Reissue Case when you purchase a new instrument?

The new 4/05 pricelist has the listprice on the molded case as $249 + the VReissue case as $279 list pricing; $30 different at list pricing to buy the case.

It also lists the upcharge (UP) when purchasing an instrument quite different than it once was; it states now the upcharge is $150!, could that be right?; it was listed in a previous price list as just $25 (I believe) to upgrade a new instrument from Standard to the Vintage case. $25 upcharge is reasonable, $150 seems extremely high.

Anybody get an upgrade recently?, what did it cost?

And finally, how much nicer is the Vintage Reissue case? I may get a 4004 soon & have a 4003 with the Standard case; I guess it might be worth $25 or $30 additional, but not $!50 more considering the list price on the 2 cases is just $30 different.

Thanks for any responses.

Thanks Joe

Thanks guys! Andy, is the black case more plush on the inside than the silver reissues? And dark blue? Rickenbacker has used quite a few different cases through the years, hence the confusion. (All of mine have different cases).
And Bob, where did you get that turbo flight case? I would love something like that for my minty '72.
Thanks again......

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum - I missed that before.

It is dark blue - difficult to tell if it is more plush or not now - it is 20 years old. I'd say it's about the same.

My '91 V63 had a black tolex case it seemed about the same as the silver case I purchased last month. I had a '70s bass with a black case and it was heavier than the new cases. I don't know that it was any stronger it just weighed more.

How many dark blues are out there? My '80 330/12 has one.
