Perfect Strap for 360/12c63 Fireglo?

So what would be the perfect vintage re-issue (or vintage) strap/color for a Fireglo 360/12c63? What did George use? Cheers, RSG

Chris, George used a burgundy "Rickenbacker" strap (vintage style).

Really? I was actually going to pose this question over at Voxtalks, but on the subject of Gretsch

. I was thinking about buying a black Gretsch strap, because as far as I can tell from videos, it's the one he used on his Gent and Tenny... I'll have to get a burgundy Rick strap when my 360/12 comes in.

Most of those vintage style straps with the shoulder pads are made by Levys. I've got several from Rickenbacker, Gretsch and Fender - they're all pretty much the same except for the logo that's embossed on it.

Obviously, the best straps are the Rickenbacker straps.

I've gone back to the plain straps with the slots in them for adjustment, not a slider. I got in the habit on constantly adjusting that shoulder pad and it was distracting.

Levy's has a great selection of colors and pad materials. For the vintage look, you want either the Levy's M25, M25C or PM46 models, depending on you preference for leather stiffness and pad material. Here's a link:

Levy's makes a great strap, both from a functional and materials standpoint. You really can't go wrong with their products and it was for these reasons, of course, that they are our supplier for the Rickenbacker brand straps.

I'm also pleased that their product is produced in North America.

Honestly, I haven't looked recently at the straps they supply our competitors but I've always preferred the suede they sew on the shoulder side of the pad as opposed to the cotton felt used on a true vintage-type strap. It has a little more "grab", is somewhat more flexible, and wears forever.

John, you can order either the suede-backed or fleece-backed pad on those Levy's straps (different S/N's). I like the suede ones myself, but then again, I don't play a Les Paul!

I am on Gary's (NCM) reserve list for a C12. I payed a deposit down over a year ago.

Gary said he's getting 2-3 C12's a month. I should receive my C12 end of summer/early autumn as I am in the 20's out of the large order NCM placed.

I CAN'T WAIT!!! LOL

I too like the Rickenbacker straps. I'll have to pick up a burgandy strap for my C12.

I also have a Python. It would make a good weapon if a drunk headed toward the stage! LOL

Thanks for the information about straps, everyone. I've been looking for a new one for a while, because I can never find one that allows me to wear the guitar high enough. Of course I got my strap from a Guitar shop that caters to the metal crowd, so all of those straps allow you to wear the guitar at your knees.

What ever happened to the Mfr. of the straps Rick provided in the 60s, the "Bobby Lee" straps? Is that co. out of business?

Bobby Lee Sottile passed away years ago now and his daughter April Lee wasn't able to keep it going- kinda sad really. He was a nice guy, a genuine character, and he made great straps. But Levy's version is still better.
