Hey, UPS brought my Laredo from NJ to FLA last month and it arrived in fine shape. I know there are horror stories, but I'd guess the vast majority of items these companies handle come through unscathed.

I have shipped over 300 guitars in the last 10 years and not one has ever been damaged by UPS.

Did you say ups or better known as oops ,my 67 ric ended up travaling over 12,000 miles in one week do to a ups screwup when they told me they had to send it here and there i uped the insurance to $10,000 probably the only thing that saved it.i will never use OOPS again.

I will never allow anything of value to be shipped to me by UPS. I've had things ridiculously damaged by them.

To be fair, I also had a monitor damaged by FedEx, but they were very quick to pay the claim.

I've gotten all of my latest Ricky aquisitions VIA UPS. Then again, maybe what I thought was normal wear and tear on 30 year old instruments was really just what "Brown" had done for me.

We've gone back and forth between the two but for the moment FedEx is doing a good job at minimizing damage. UPS really took a nosedive from a claims standpoint last year and we found it impossible to keep working with them.

The FedEx rep is better looking too.

Any of them can screw up. I have used UPS many times to send instrument without incident. It was FedEx that smashed Marc Seligman's bass.

IMHO, when an instrument is severely damaged, it's probably done on purpose and maybe even by a frustrated wannabe musician out of spite.

Our Fedex driver is definitely better looking than the UPS or DHL drivers! Not only that, she brings Teddy, our 120 lbs. long haired German Sheppard treats all the time.

Chris at POTR went to bat for me about the damage that UPS inflicted on my mapleglo 4004/5Cii. Recently, he got a settlement out of them for me. It took many months and UPS did not want to deal with me, only the shipper. UPS tried to get away with it, but Chris didn't let them.

the only way to make sure nothing bad happens is to ship next day. UPS/fedex/dhl/whatever doesn't get enough time to be rude with stuff.

Pack the stuff like a tank, I've had fragile antique electronics shipped accross country with no problems. Don't expect gentle handling by people who have bosses pushing them to rush all the time. Write fragile in BIG letters on all surfaces, thick foam sheets works well too.

My 4003S/8 came via UPS from Mike Parks - fortunately the bass was fine, but one corner of the case got crunched.

Then I found out who they've got working over there at UPS, and it made a lot more sense - he can barely life the packages!
