This IS creepy. Good call. My first impression is that is was a commercially-produced doll with a missing head. However, this is apparently made by a husband-and-wife team of "artists" who deliberately did it this way. They claim that we all remember what he looked like, so they left his face off...
Judging by the quality of the "Rickenbacker replica" guitar that the headless doll is holding, they couldn't replicate Lennon's face and head if he was standing in front of them. So, leave it off.
Scroll to the bottom and have a gander at the replica guitars.
They call themselves "Cart Before the Horse". More like "Ambition Before Talent", IMO.

“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

You are so right--I couldn't quite think what it reminded me of, and you nailed it!

I used to live about an hour from the seller who makes these things.
I sent the seller a friendly email about one of his pieces called 'Day Of The Dead' with a Rickenbacker asking if he could make another one.
The seller/artist emailed me back with a cocky tone. You would have thought you bothered Warhol (ego). lol
Lost a sale dude!

You kind of get the same impression reading the copy in their eBay listing.

Can't you folks tell, it's the Sleepy Hollow version of Lennon. As horrid as it looks he might as well have used a pumpkin for the head, it certainly couldn't have made it look any worse.

Jeff, the scary thing is that the folks who "created" this dreadful mess are the ones selling it. They seem to regard it as art.
I would regard it as kindling.
