Replacement bridge for 4003

Hello
I want to replace the all bridge - tailpiece unit in my 4003 bass because all the mute thing. I don't use it and it is disturbing me playing. I found this new Replacement bridge for 4000 series in http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/bridge_hipshot.htm
some questions:
Is it o.k to replace such element in the ric bass in none original part ?
Is it going to affect the sound?

Go for it if the bridge annoys you, that one there looks very nice and im guessing you can just screw it in. It may have a larger mass - thus changing the sound somewhat, but not by very much.

Those saddles look like they have a lot of travel distance...

They are the same saddles as the ones I have on my Zon and 4004Cii. Mucho travel and well designed.

I already talked to them about getting one without any holes drilled ... I would then drill my own holes and put in smaller saddles ...

Jeff (jps) and anyone else who orders one: would it be possible to record some before and after sound samples? I think that would be very interesting.

IMHO the best possible result would be no noticeable change in sound, i.e. keeping the stock sound while gaining the advantage of easier operation. But one way or another, I'll keep an open mind.

I can record no problem (to tape), but I am computer illiterate enough not to be able to do the mp3 thing! I'll try and get help from my bandmates.
