BurgundyGlo on 77 4001 ?
Anyone know if this finish was available on the 1977 4001's ? I'm getting offered one that looks pretty OK, but it has a black Ric nameplate on the headstock, and I don't know if this is correct for the year. Any online reference to the model year would be good.

First, go here:

and scroll down to the color guide. Yes, Bugundy was available in '77. Can you see if your bass has black binding and black pickguard?

OK, looks legit. The truss-rod cover (the Rickenbacker logo) must be a replacement. Usually, white-bound Ricks came with white pickguard and white TRC. The black looks good, though. If you end up buying this bass, you can get a replacement pickguard in black from the Pickguardian (www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian) to match the TRC. It's a lot easier to obtain replacement pickguards than TRCs.

The store is called The Bass Palace and the owner refers to himself as "the swami". Up untill recently he had a burgandy glow 4001 of that vintage with a black trc. That struck me as an odd combination.
