Gareth, did you ever try that 300 watt tube head they made about 10 years ago to compete (I assume) with SVT's? They weren't around for very long.

Just a joke Jeff, I asked you the same thing last year when you first printed it, I knew it was you then too. My printers not working I have a few from when I was 14 with my first no name (Howard?) bass.

I did try the tube heads. They were just like you'd expect. Very warm and loud with a nice crackle to the sound when pushed. They were a good attempt at producing an SVT-alike.

In the end though, I think that if I was going to get a tube head, I'd go for the SVT, just as when I tried the Ampeg tranny amp. It was good, but not quite a Trace.

Gareth i have an unusual Trace combo, its a regular "715" 150w 7 band amp with a 15 inch speaker......its two tone blue tho!
Has a badge on the top reading "trace custom limited edition number 001 of 100. Weird stuff!

It a good amp but i moved a a 180w Ashdown head that sounds similar but better- a lot crunchier and has a rotary eq (i dislike graphic eq's) I use it with two homemade 1x15 cabs. I followed the dimentions of a trace 1x15 cab and used Celestion BL15-150 speakers.....it sounds killer!

Maybe this would be a nice opportunity for RIC to market a "WIGenbacker" series... :D

Sorry, the only pic I still have from my young years. This one was taken in a recording studio back in early 1980, but unfortunately the 4001 JG I had at this time is not on the picture... (I'm on the right on the picture)
