An Interesting Model 4005

Just in from Kelly Munro from the UK, a couple of photos and a few words about his May 1967 Model 4005. These basses are certainly rare but how many have you seen with an f-hole?

Kelly writes

"Bought from Music Ground in Doncaster, England around 1996. Serial is May 1967 and used everyday in my band theoccupiers.com. I have attached some photos. Sounds amazing through my sans amp and Ashdown rig. Rickenbackers rule!!!!!- Kelly (London)."

You know, everytime I see a 4005 I get severe GAS pains, but this f-hole 4005 is just about killing me. Given their scarcity and skyrocketing vintage price, I can only hope a V series 4005 is somewhere on the horizon.

This bass was commented on some 3-4 years back by someone who had seen it at Music Ground. Along with the Jetglo one that used to be on the updates page they must be the Rose Morris 3261. There was a picture of an Italian one on VT a while back too. Very, very few of these and that F hole just makes it look even cooler...

Beautiful 4005.....I've got two of 'em and still have severe RAS for them!! Such a great instrument...

What do you think the likelyhood of a possible 4005 reissue would be ?

That's a question that's been rehashed many times around here. John Hall did give us a rough street price on a 4005 reissue, (I believe it was around $2500-3000?), which considering what they're going for these days, doesn't seem too bad. I'm not holding my breath for a reissue in the near future but it could be one of those projects they'll get to at some point.

So it was a hypothetical retort on his part about all the interest in the 4005 then ? He was just tossing out a price to see a possible reaction?God how cool would a 4005 reissue be ! I would love to see a 72 checker 4001 as a reissue too !

RIC is maxed out right now, just with the stock stuff and C series !! I really don't think we'll see anything like the "v68" bass or a 4005 re-issue for a long, long time....

I'm sure JH would love to make something along these lines, but it's just not economically feasible or even possible right now....

....but, ahem.....I'll take serial #'s 1,2 and 3 of both when they come out.....
