96' rick wiring diagrams/photos requested

Post by throw_this_away »

Hey,

Got a used 96' fireglo 4003 bass from a local guy. He had popped in bartolini pickups, but I didn't want them so said take them out and don't bother replacing the stock ones as I will get them professionally done... (note, he gave me the 2 capacitors)

Well I gave the online schematics (from the ric page) to the repair shop and went in today to test it out before I paid (90$)... well the mono jack was dead, and the sterio jack was a mess (even with a splitter). It seemed as though even the volume and tone knobs in the sterio jack were wired wrong, and only one pickup ever worked. I don't think they had a clue what they were doing (they tried to tell me that the ric-o-sound was the mono jack...).

With that being said, I am looking for more schematics/pictures of the wiring that I can send them tomorrow...

If they can't do it by tomorrow I will take it to another local guy who has experience with rics. I would have gone to him from the start but I couldn't get in contact with him before I dropped it off with these other guys (who are traditionally knowledgable).

Very frustrating.

The wiring can be confusing if you're not used to it. It's not your fathers bass. Oh, that's Oldsmobile or was rather.

John, I'll see if I have a picture of the wiring from one of my basses. "A picture is worth a thousand words."

John, just follow carefully the wiring diagram on the RIC website and you'll be fine, I'm not an expert but that's what I did just two weeks ago with the help of a friend who has better soldering skills than mine, and it worked perfectly and cost nothing.

Can't recall where I saved this pic from (probably eBay auction) but it may also help. The red wire is the capacitor bypass.

Instead of spending $90 you can also buy a pre-wired harness from Mike Parks for $60.
