The first time I ever used nitro was in 1966, when I repainted my friend's mom's new Plymouth Valiant (she bought a red one and had a change of mind to black). I had a new gun and rented compressor, and a gallon of black DuPont nitro and a fiver of thinner.
It was late fall and a bit cool, so I used a cooler thinner and left the doors to the 2-car garage closed.
After about the fourteenth coat (no respirator) I began to get the munchies, so off to the DQ for a burger and jumbo pineapple shake. I normally hate pineapple shakes. I don't know what I was thinking...but I do know that I remember nothing for awhile until I chundered all over the parking lot before heading back for fourteen more coats.
Since then, I've learned the secrets of good ventilation and good food, too.
Oh, and I had black rings around both nostrils that looked like Harry Potter's eyeglasses.

Much less than that. I picked up one for under $1,000CDN including taxes. (and yes oil less compressor) My other hobby is old cars. A Supplied Air Systems model 3800-30.

Thanks for the leak, er, link! Anyhow, I've got a big backdraft booth, so an organic vapor mask works fine.

Howard, you crack me up!
Patrick, no pics unfortunately, it was one of those "... e-mail us..." listings. Apparently this particular dealer ordered one three years ago. Earlier in the thread, a price of $2199 was cited, so this dealer's price is a little high.
