here's a sound byte done with my 2020-5 with a bass pod direct into a $100 cassette recorder and a cheap drum machine ... go to track seven ...

I am still breaking in my new Bass PODxt. Because of my travel schedule, I have had a lot of time to read its manual and plink around and figure out the systems, and I've had some (but not enough) time to try out the sounds. The layout, logical nature, and deep editing features of this unit pass with flying colors. I am going to spend some time this weekend with the tones and post a review. It IS an amazingly logical and functional tool to program, though, from first look.

Hey Dean, I'm still pretty sure you can do what I was talking about - recording a track dry and then applying different POD settings to it later - it's not internal to the POD, it's a mixing board thing. I'll shut up about it now
I'm excited to find out how the whole thing works out! It's great that you've had the time to figure out the programming and editing aspect beforehand. Then you can experiment and save away...

Harry, thanks for that last post. If that is a possibility, I would like to try it. The most important aspect of the bass tone is how it fits in the song's mix, not necessarily how it sounds just on its own, so if I could apply and tweak effects after the fact, that could be very helpful.
One thing I was happy to find out is that you can save over any of the factory presets, and then at some point down the road, either re-load the factory presets one by one, or completely reset the whole thing back to the original factory configuration. And you can give them your own names, too... that is pretty cool.
Jeff, I will examine the 2 effect phenomenon on the xt when I get a chance. Thanks for the alert.

Hey Dean, I just downloaded the manual for the Bass PODxt, and you're right, it doesn't say anything about recording direct and using the POD afterwards. If you have a high-speed connection, you can go to the line 6 website (www.line6.com) and download the manual for the regular POD 2.0 (for guitar). It starts on page 3.4 by their numbering, or page 27 in the PDF file.
RE: more than one effect - I wonder if it has anything to do with the order of the effects? One of the nice things about pedals is the ability to put them in different orders...

Jeff, yes I would suspect that the standard patches won't work for everyone. Even the same player, with 2 different basses (like my 4003 and my Stingray) would need 2 different settings, I would suspect, just to approximate the same sound. I just think it's really interesting that Line 6 actually included settings that attempt to model a specific recorded tone of Geddy Lee, John Entwhistle, Chris Squire, JPJ, McCartney, etc. Of course they probably won't work for most players exactly as is, but it's fun to use the information for comparative purposes. I'm not trying to copy any of those guys' tones exactly, but knowing more about what I'm hearing might help me get closer to where I want to be, tonally. Or, at least I hope so. If I can't get there, I always have the old approach to fall back on. I am going to let my ears be the final judge. Whatever sounds best for the mixes we'll go with....
Harry, I will check out that link later tonight. Thanks!

Well I had the chance to play with the POD XT and it looks like it`s not made for me. The features, EQ`s, effects possibilities seem very powerful and wide but it just does not do the trick for me as it does for Jeff.
This is just a pure question of taste and opinion, cause the POD is well built with great quality. It has so many Tones that are possible to get and tweak it makes it really versatile.
I prefer my EBS pedals and will continue using stompboxes in the future.
Anyone looking for an absolute mint condiion Bass POD XT in the Forum, I have one for sale now !!!
