Well.... you might say I made some fuzzy assupmtions about the whole thing.... like not fully knowing that the paint stripper I was using ate plastic. Live and learn.

But all in all I'm happy with my painted guards wnd TRC.

I think a 74000 ohm pickup would be a little too bassy.

Or ten pounds!

It's interesting the 'leave it original' debate. It didn't bother Lennon, or McGuinn & people are actually trying to copy those mods now. I put an extra p/up on a 330 & I intend to also put another p/up on a 1997. As long as it's done professionaly, I can see no harm in it at all. You are only creating a 340 or a 1997spc, it's not like you are doing something that Ric never did!

You know, Tony, I don't feel too religious about this either. I've thought about adding a third toaster to my 381, but am not too sure that there would be sound advantages to this.

The three p/up Rics sound superb Paul & open up a whole new soundscape that you just can't get with just two. The sound of the neck & mid working together, be it toaster or hi-gain, is a glorious sound. Well worth having in your arsenal. I am going to wire the mid p/up volume to the bass tone control, as I NEVER use that control (I use the blend all the time though) & really don't need a tone control on the neck & mid p/ups. That way, I can have the best of all worlds.

Sound advice, Tony!

Gosh, the sound of a three pickup 381? I wonder--has anybody here ever done this? What would it be--a 391? Of course, mine's got a vibrato, so I guess it would be a 381+10+5=396.

If it was good enough for Chevy, it's good enough for me.
