Bob's story is exactly right. Zappa was hearing people yell this out and he didn't know it. Some of the band members told him what it was and he decided that Bobby Martin could "sing the h*ll out of it" and then they played it every night as the encore. I saw them 4 times on that tour.

Man, I miss that guy.

Yes, my friend did say they played it as an encore. That was a shock when he died, you know life isn't fair sometimes, we have these guys who do everything they could possibly do to kill themselves, Spinal Tap makes them sound like amateurs, they nod out onstage all the time etc. and they live forever and people like Zappa who was dedicated to the art of music more than anyone I know of and was straight dies young.
The moral of this (Whipping Post) story for me is even if you are a genius you gotta give the people what they want at least a little bit of the time if for nothing else than to just shut them up, haha! some of these time-weary songs if played right sound great and are fun to play. there is a reason most of them are popular except for 'Wonderful Tonight' there is no rational reason nor excuse for that one.

Bob, agree 100% about Zappa. And it's ironic that a generation of people who are coming down the pike after his life think he was a druggie...

Not true, as anyone who worked with him would attest. The guy was a workaholic, all business. There was no time to do LSD and be "Cosmic"...he was too busy making FUN of those folk!

Ah Good old Frank! Use to catch him during the late 70’s as a teenager at Halloween and around Christmas at he Palladium.

It’s funny, I drove past a house today that had a Jockey on the front lawn and guess what I broke into!

Did a great version Happy Together too with F&E of course!
