Up here in Marin, he's a household word. Owsley, that is, not LR. He's a household word in the Castro...

'Household word'...I've always liked that phrase. I think I'll begin shouting it at passing neighborhood youths:

"Household Word to y'Mama!"

My own favorite HHW is "glyph".

Owsley had a very far reaching influence. I would agree he influenced at least John Lennon and maybe Harrision to a great degree. (even more than LR, ha!)

Are you referring to Owsley the musician with the Beatlesque pop sensibilities, or his relative that invented LSD?

I'm not sure who Bob is referring to, but I'm sure I know who Dane is referring to.

BTW, LSD was not "invented" by Owsley. It came out of a lab in Switzerland in the early 1940s. Sandoz, I believe. The guy's nae was Albert Hofmann.

Interesting. I notice they mention Leary and his partner, Richard Alpert. Leary has passed on, but his cohort Alpert (no relation to Herb!) is alive and well and is now known and very well-respected as "Ram Dass". I have attended his lectures.

Peace to all. Jai Guru Deva.

ooh.....that story hits alota sore spots Bob......Considering you've likely read that Silly love songs was defended by moi.....and the fact that I disagree with little richards talk of the beatles.......you probably think i dont have any respect for little richard......well, Quite frankly.....I used to, but I do not now...........Just in the same way I lost respect for Chuck berry...........He may have invented the mccartney vocal style, but he didnt invent the beatles, mccartney, or rock n' roll.......contrary to his thought

I don't get the constant criticism against "silly love songs". I love that song. Great arrangement, great vocal, killer bass line and the lyrics are witty, yeah a bit silly, but still pretty cool. I don't see that tune as "coasting on the beatles" at all.

Is Little Richard still alive? ... all of his music is like 50 - 60 years old or something ... he was creepy before Jacko made creepy popular ... does anybody care what he thinks?

Well, we know what you think, Jeff!

Seriously, though, he is alive and as well as he ever was...that's what started this thread--a recent concert of his in the UK.

"Constant Criticism"...love their line of herbal teas (New-Age-ee Face...)

Swastikas are 'out', Crucifixes are 'in', but creepy has always been popular...and 'Popular' has always been creepy, at least to me...

Just to keep the Silly Old Ball rolling...that bass line couldn't kill anything but vermin, and then only through the right subwoofer.

There, I've said it and I feel better...
