Ric Acoustic 700C Fireglo in the For Sale Section

Post by oldgoatguitars »

Well, I bought one, and now I know what they are. Definitely a fine guitar, but not for me. I've decided to offer it first to the Ric enthusiasts here on this forum. It's in the "For Sale" section. Check it out if you're interested.

You're not having much luck with Rickenbackers, are you Mark?

Could you expand a bit on the 'not for me' comment? I'm interested to find out as much as possible about Rick acoustics from players, not brochures, etc.

Thanks in advance and cheers!!

Howard, I've been playing mostly Martins for over 30 years. First of all, Martin has only made a handful of maple guitars, relatively speaking, and I am just so entrenched in the sound of a fine rosewood guitar that maple doesn't do much for me. It's bright, powerful, and crisp, but I prefer depth, smoothness, and complex overtones. One isn't better than the other; it's just a personal preference. That said, this Ric is as good or better than any Gibson maple guitar I've played such as a J-200 or J-150. The workmanship is top-notch, too. One thing I do really like about this guitar and, in many ways, is often the measure of a fine acoustic, is how well it responds to the flat pick and the light touch of fingerpicking. She can go both ways with a very nice response. Folks who like the brightness and crispness of a large body maple acoustic will LOVE this guitar.

Thanks for that Mark. I'm glad there is nothing apart from the tonal qualities that you weren't happy with.

If I'm ever going to buy one of these babes it will probably be sight unseen (I doubt that I'll ever be able to 'try before I buy' over here in Oz!).

Add to that the possibility that I might die waiting for delivery (unless it's used)!!

And add to the fray that RIC isn't taking orders for acoustics....

And that gorgeous FG 700C-12 went for about $3K on eBay a couple of weeks ago!

Let's see............ $3000 USD divided by 0.78 plus 3% duty, plus 10% GST plus say $350 for shipping.

Hmmmm......... about $4700 AUD - ouch!!
