Blueburst 660 Available

I see only one problem with that 660/12 BBR.

Thanks for theses photos Ron. You have done us all a great service. These photos reveal how difficult it might be to capture the blueburst finish. Differing amounts of light can completely change the appearance of an instrument.

My memory from following Mary Chapin-Carpenter's blueburst for years has always been that the blueburst was applied a bit like the fireglo, going from dark on the edges to almost natural in the center of the instrument. Of course lighting comes into play here and so I went back to the RIC site to see the photos of Mary's guitars. I have cropped the photo below and it seems to be close to my memory of her first blueburst.

This recent blueburst (above) has the same dark to light characteristic of a burst but is less light in the center. I am wondering if this is an individual difference in the spraying of the instrument or if it is more typical of the average blueburst leaving the factory today.

I find both finishes very appealing and, before comparing them side by side, leaned toward Mary's finish as it is a little more three-dimensional and has an appearance closer to the fireglo shading. It might be argued, however, that Mary's is too faint that that the 2005 Blueburst is a more even tone. I have offered Ron's photo above for the purpose of comparison.

As I consider both of these photos now, I can't decide which one I like best.

Methinks a flamy 381 would be the absolute best for showing off this finish. (Or a flamy 4005, but we all know that's a fantasy)

Thanks, Peter. Coming from you, that's a wonderful compliment. I'm with you, I don't know which Blueburst finish I like the best! In person, the blue is definitely darker around the edges of the instrument. The checkered binding with the gold pickguards and nameplate really set it off. As Dean said earlier, I would be shocked if it hung around the store for long.

This just makes my hunger for my 4004cii/BBR that much worse!!

Chris, you know that good things come to those who wait! Besides, I think that we're gonna see a flood of new Bluebursts in the next few weeks. I can't wait to see how BBR will look on the 4004's.

I'm looking forward to seeing the BBR on a 360 (I'm very selfish). Is the checkered binding standard for all BBRs?

No. The binding is whatever is standard for that particular model, regardless of finish.

The checkered binding is not standard on bluebursts. It is standard on the 660. (All colors)
