Does Rickenbacker Even Care?

L&M won't stock any RIC's (they have RIC issues). And they don't want to sell you one unless you're willing to pay their price. And if you agree to pay their price, they won't service it during the warranty period should it be required. They will tell you that you'll have to send it back to the factory for the warranty work to be done. Hard to believe, but true.
As much as i'd like to see the business stay in our country, you're far better off to buy out of the US.
I look forward to John's forth coming announcement regarding the Canadian RIC dealer scene.

So am I...and so is my credit card company, and so is my wife's divorce lawyer...
I bought my JG 381v69 at L&M (Toronto - Ossington Station location) back in late January of this year. Some of you probably saw it proudly sitting there. It is two years old and the gentleman who owned it previously paid (with all charges figures in) $3,800.00 for it. I got it for $2,000.00 and the guitar did not appear to have been played all that much, and even if it had been, it is in fine shape.
Best $2,000.00 I ever spent.

Wow I guess my Countrymen and I stand united?
We need more Ricks! ASAP.
By the way, Nick the Grain Elevators are almost all gone now,
dem dare, Picken's es a gittin' preddy Slim, I's a Sade?
UMMM? Not bad for a Blue-collar Red-neck eh?
But back to the real issue, I got the same kind of "feeling" back in '96 when I bought my 330, from the same Dealer. Almost a "don't bother us" buy a Fender or a Gibson Instead, not taking anything away from those guitars, but If I want a Rick, I want a Rick!
this is why I went east, but I really feel I shouldn't have too?
If Mr Hall says "wait and see" then I'll wait and see!( I played a 325 in '81, got my 330 in '96, I guess I can wait a little longer)
After all he's Da Man!
Take care
RJ

If JH says the dealer scene will change this year for Rickenbacker and other products as well, does that mean there's a new player on the Canadian music retailer scene? Perhaps it's an internet based store? That wouldn't be a bad idea as Canada is a country characterized by a small population spread over a vast land mass (in other words, Canada's really big). Should be interesting news!

If anyone is in Toronto there are three used Ric's at Capsule Music on Queen West right now.
330 1996 export
$1600.00
360 2000 natural
$1600.00
330 / 12 1966
$2600.00
When I first started looking for a used Ric a couple years ago I couldn't find any, but recently I've seen quite a few, especially at Capsule. They had about six a few weeks ago.

There are also two used Rickenbackers at a small shop in Hamilton, MES (stands for Musical equipment Supplies I think). There's a 330 FG and a 620, all black. Be warned though, the proprietor is odd. I asked him when he got them in and he said, "When they got shipped here!" I eventually persuaded him to look up the shipping dates in his records and they've been there since 1989! The prices aren't bad (I think they were $1500 and $1700 Canadian)and the guitars are in good shape. I'm amazed they've been there so long but the guy is completely inflexible and I suspect it's his personality that makes people not want to deal with him. Apparently, if you try haggling at all, he starts raising his prices! And, I hear he used to have a chicken that would run free in the store along with some kind of mangy dog that had patches of fur missing everywhere.

I've seen it in person and the wood on the 1997 is spectacular:

Capsule seems to always have a few Ricks around, but not much in the way of basses recently.

I used to live in Hamilton and can confirm Bill's crazy story about MES. I have actually seen the aforementioned "chicken" running around on the counter and the old smelly dog. The guy is odd and rather aggressive. He puts you off with condescending questions. Even buying strings there was a bad experience.
The only place in Hamilton that is worse is Recycled Music & Sound. I went in there once with an original Colorsound Tonebender and asked the guy how much he'd give me for it.
He says, "No one really wants these things, I'll give you $60 for it."
I later sold it on consignment for $275 at the Guitar Clinic (R.I.P.) apparently Al Anderson of the Wailers bought it.

Well Gentlemen
I'm happy to report, that yes I did get a 360/12 FG (New) From L&M (Saskatoon).
They told me today, as I was making my Payment, that they are getting at least 4 in the store (ASAP)
YES! my dream to walk into a store (In Saskatchewan) and see some Rics, will soon come true!
This last weekend, I had two guys during one show, asking me where I got my Rickenbackers.
I've let people try my 330 over the years, just because they was nowhere to even look at one
I soon will have a place to send them!
To the folks at Rickenbacker, WOW! this 12 is everything I dreamed it would be, just awesome!
to Mr Hall thank-you!
And I can say , Yes Rickenbacker does care, Just pick one up you'll find out just how much they do care!
Cheers
RJ
