Hey, that could work! Direct drop in is good. When I do use a pick my hand is on the bridge and I play right where the mute is. That thing is annoying so that's a good idea.

I still have to find a 4003s jetglo. Should I post something in the wanted section?

I wouldn't want to encourage you to mutilate a beautiful and rare Rickenbacker instrument(I would consider a 4003S rare) but...well...you just missed one on ebay.

I have a link to a 4003s fireglo that is for sale in Canada....not sure of the year, but it was posted here a while back....now I can't find the thread.....but I DO have the guys number and the price is right! E-mail me off line if you're REALLY interested....

It wouldn't be mutilated with one of those Hipshot bridges instead of a badass. I don't have the money for the bass right now anyway so no biggie on missing that "S".

I bought my Jetglo v63 for less than half that a couple years ago. And then a few months later another one went for around $900.00. Does somebody have a time machine I could borrow?

Its getting to the point where you almost wouldn't want to gig a v63 because they're too valuable!

I hear what you're saying, Jeff. And I thought I paid a lot when I bought my Mapleglo v63 for $1600 last December. I've gotten to the point where I have two categories for my Rics- the ones that get played in the house only and those that go out.

I don't understand how some of you guys can have great/cool basses and not take them out to be enjoyed. I'm not being critical I just can't see having a wonderful instrument and not using it in public. I must admit that I do enjoy buying used Rics that have had sheltered lives though.

I play out with all my basses, including the V63, '73 4001 and '67 4005WB! Be brave, these instruments were mean't to be played, not sheltered.

Brian,

I think your last sentence anwered my perspective. Many of the out of production basses I bought are in great shape and I would eventually like to pass them on in that same condition.

From my past experience, I'm afraid to take something that's hard to replace to a gig since I've seen the fights and the drunks and all it takes is one idiot's carelessness to ruin something. Plus, you wind up watching your gear like a hawk during loadout in case someone tries to steal it.

I'll take most of my basses to organized jams where I know there are other respectful musicians and I know the risks are low. But I'd hate myself if one the hard-to-find ones got ruined.

I'll be the first to admit that some of my stuff was purchased just to have and not to play out. But that still leaves me with some good basses to gig with.

Jeff, if you read this before the confluence, it's my 73 Sea Green project that has issues. Ted is kinda the daddy of this bass, since he'll be there, he'll know more than I will.
