Nate - I have one of those pickup plates from Pickguardian. I like to swap back and forth between that and the cover. I currently have the cover on just b/c I like the looks better. The pickup plate does have a nice clean look to it and doesn't leave any gaping holes around the pickup. I enjoy having both options available should I ever decide to take the cover off again.

The cover bothers me because it splits my fingers open if I hit the strings too hard. Do you have to have both pieces of the plastic cover on at the same time? I would've taken one off and placed my thumb on the pickup that's sticking out.

That would work as well. I bought the clear plate b/c it didn't feel right to have the pickup exposed. However, I do realize this is not based in logic b/c the pick up is exposed anyway underneath the cover. Just a weird feeling I have about it I guess.

Yeah. It bothers me because I have to put my thumb in the pickup cover to put it on the pickup.

Nate and Joey, you can still rest your thumb on the pickup guard. It's at least a 1/4 inch thick rounded plexiglass and sticks up almost as high as the original. That's why I like it, because it doesn't stick up as high.
Buy it before someone else does.

I usually have my have on the string above the one I'm using. When I use the E my hand "floats". It's kind of annoying.

I usually anchor my thumb to the B string on 5 string basses and on the E string when I play 4 string basses unless I am playing those strings, then I put my thumb on the pickup. That's a habit I've developed since I started playing 5 string basses.

Same here Joey. My second bass was a 5er so I taught myself to fingerstyle on it like you so.
