What is this guitar?

Post by bruceglaser »

I found an article about guitar collecting in a magazine, and this picture is shown. It is identified as a rare 1964 3305 ( they probably mean 330S ) 12 string belonging to Pete Townshend but I can't identify the model. Here's whats odd to me.

1. There is no sound hole.
2. The top of the body and headstock is black, but the sides appear to be another color, possibly FireGlo.
3. The trapeze tailpiece is not aligned with the strings.
4. The pickguard is a single level, not double level one.
5. The body is bound ( at least the top, I can't tell if the bottom is) but the neck is not and it has dot markers.
6. The truss rod cover is missing so you can se that it does have 2 truss rods. It's probably not a copy , but a real Rick.

I will try to post the photo. It will be small and most likely hard to make out details.

Here's the photo:Image

Would it be a 1993 that's been through the Townsend school of guitar testing & remanufacture?

If it's a re-manufactured 1993, they re- manufactured the f hole right out of it! Some other things I just noticed, it has a white bat on the toggle, and a 12 saddle bridge that does not look like a Rick part.
