How much is my '75 4001 worth?

How much would you guys think my 1975 Ricky 4001 (burgundy) would be worth? Everything is original, finish is ok, a few dings but nothing major. Your estimate?

You're not thinking of selling it, are you? I want it back in that case...

Seriously, you've described my 1975 4001 pretty closely (sorry that the pics are poor...I'm not good with a camera)

I'm not sure, but I'd think that it *should* get at least $1200, but the market is VERY fickle and weird. Might be worth more if I routed out some wood on the body for some God-awful pickups, broke the pickguard in that process, and put some POS cheesy bridge on it.

2005 vintage guitar blue book says for a 1975 Rickenbacker 4001 (all colors) in excellent condition, low = $1300 high = $1600.

Ed, your 4001 is quite like mine. I just have that PU-cover on mine. And I'm not selling it! No way. I'm just wondering because I'm about to insure all my instruments and equipment.

The PU cover was lost years ago. I've have that bass since 1981-it was my first real guitar. Semi-retired now that I have a new Laredo, but it's still a great player.

Peter - I would have liked NOT to get the extreme glare and my shadow in the pics!

And the whole thing in sunlight would have been nice. Not my camera, I'll have to borrow it from my guitarist again and do another shoot soon.

I had taken the pictures the day I got my new Laredo in early March. Eventually I'll get around to preparing more of the pics for the board.

I don't have pics of it lying around, and I have no idea on how do post pics here either.

It was beautiful weather here earlier today so I was out on the lawn and took pics of my Mustang Bass and some of my other guitars, but I don't have the Ricky here at my home at the time.

Posting pics is easy. Get a Jpeg (or I guess some other picture format) file on your hard drive. Click on "upload attachment", put in a description and browse to find the file.

If I can do it, anyone can. The trick is to have the digital photo...

Brief aside, I have a GREAT picture of me playing my Laredo at the first gig I used it on-the flaming on the neck through the body came out wondeful. I only have a hard copy, though. Friends say "just scan it". Well, this computer programmer has no scanner, no access to one, and generall stinks at using the computer for graphic applications (other than writing the database programs I do...). But if I had the pic in digital form, it would be posted here.

By far this is the easiest board I've ever come across for posting photos.

Just be sure that the photo is 36K or less and 500 X 500 pixels or less.

Here, I will try to post a picture of '75 Ricky hanging next to my '73 Mustang Bass. Not the best picture, but you see what it is...

When I only got my Mustang Bass it was my main bass, when I got the Rickenbacker it's my main bass and now I'm soon getting a '63 Fender Precision Bass, maybe it will be my main bass?

That Mustang doesn't look too bad either!

LPB w/racing stripes is a great color for Mustangs, and it looks even better when it turns more turquoise over the years. I just can't get used to the short scale.

No, it's not bad looking... It have turned turquoise here and there. Should have been with a matching headstock though. They ten times as good looking!

I was used to the short scale, but when I got the Rick it got my main bass and when I go back to the Mustang Bass it's quite uncomfortable. The Rick is just so much smoother!

I'm just wondering what my '63 P will be like...

Funny you have a Mustang...I have a 66 Mustang guitar. Was my main guitar for a lot of years before I got my Rick 650 Dakota, and then last year switched back to bass.

Nice looking 4001, Rudi!

Looks really clean, and maybe a bit better condition than mine. Also looks like your neck PU is the 1" spacing rather than the 1/2" spacing mine has. What month is yours (mine is February)?

I don't remember the month, and I don't have it here at home. But I think it is a January or February but I can be mistaken.
