Goin' south

Post by rickwatt »

Sorry this is a bit off the Ric topic, but I've had it with the winters in the northeast and would like to move somwhere down south. I'd like to be in/near a city where I can be playing 2-4 nites a week. I play originals/covers in the style of Paul Westerberg,Tom Petty,Paul Weller,Who,MC5- Any of you guys/gals have any suggestions? Athens GA? Raleigh-Durham NC?

Athens doesn't have quite the scene that it did in it's early '80's heyday. Raleigh/Durham is a possibility - though Chapel Hill (same thing basically) has a lot of the clubs.

Atlanta's alright (that's where I'm at)...but after a while the traffic may make you long for your snow shovel.

the raleigh/durham/chapel hill area is pretty hot as well as charlotte.

virginia is hit and miss. richmond has a scene, but it's mostly hardcore and rockabilly. in the norfolk area where i am, it's about the same. the club i work in does a lot of stuff like you're looking to do and it tends to do well. but it's gotta be promoted right.

Thanx for insight. I've heard a lot good things about the 'triangle' in NC. I'll look more into it-
