Trapeze, r or accent

Post by jbstevo »

hi all
just got hold of an older 330 in need of tlc.(small trade of for needing to sell my 370rm....sob) it has a few parts missing. can anybody advise me on the pros and con's of each tailpiece. the r piece is a pain to restring but looks pretty cool. are there problems of sustain and tuning with the accent? i wouldn't mind if i could make the guitar have the look of a pre 63 300. i love the look of the gold pickguards. when did ric introduce the accent? when did the r piece replace the trapeze. does anybody have a photo or a link to a 62 330? lots of questions i know but input would be appreciated.
cheers

Forget about the Ac'cent vibrato and 'R' tailpiece. The wise person will go with the trapeze tailpiece. The 'R' tailpiece looks way cool, but is more trouble than it's worth. And the Ac'cent vibrato is just plain AWFUL!

My humble $0.02.

Well put, except I like my Ac'cent! Of course, I have NO experience with the others!

To add my two cents...

I'm all for the "R" tailpiece, because I don't string my own guitars. If I did, I'd grudgingly take the trapeze.

I prefer the trapeze tailpiecs, but I haven't yet had the "pleasure" of using the Kauffman vibrato...any input on this unit? AL A.

I've not had any trouble with the R tailpiece on my 360/6. I string it one string at a time. Maybe if I took them all off at once there might be a problem. I don't know. I like the 'R'. I just recently read a post somewhere by a guy that was having a hell of a time stringing an Accent vibrato. It sounded like more of a pain than a Bigsby.

I have always change my strings one at a time with the¨"R" piece, and never had a problem with it. Of course, the trapeze seem to be the logical way to go if you remove all the strings at once...But I still think that the "R" looks cool!!

Good choice. "The daring young man on the Rickenbacker trapeze." Please do post the photos John.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I took my 1997 w/accent out of the case after 2 weeks and it was STILL in tune.
I must be lucky.

Climate has more to do with it I think. No large or sudden temp changes down here. Finish checking is virtually unknown because of this.
