DR Flatwounds

I have it from a reliable source that DR has recently acquired a winding machine that will be used to make flatwound bass strings. It will be a while before they appear on the market but apparently they are on the way. Given the quality of DR's rounds, the flats should be pretty impressive.

Are they the company that makes the high beams?

Yes. And the Sunbeams, and Fat Beams, and Lo Riders. I like them all.

I use Hi-Beams on all of my basses except my v63 which has Sun-Beams and my FG '75 which has TI flats. I like the softer sound of the nickel strings on the v63.

and they make "Black Beauties" coloured strings- for those not talented enough to play their g'tars!

I have been using Dr High Beams since around 1990. I swear by them and have used no other round string since. They are extremely flexible, intonate well, and have tone that lasts longer than most others, not to mention they are very easy on fret wear. I'll bet if they are planning on producing a flatwound string it will be a good one.

I use the DR Lo-Riders on my V63 and 4003. They work very well on each. Little to no fret wear on either. If they start making flats, I'd be very tempted to try them. Their strings are very high quality.
