620 Midnight Blue pictures?

Post by shochu_brother »

Hi
I have been lurking for a while and this is my first posting to the group; a great place for further worsening my guitar addictions!

I am looking at getting a 620/12 in either MID or MG. I've never seen a MID blue 620 in person so I was hoping someone on the forum had a pic of theirs. MG is still a serious consideration though!

Recently, while in Japan, I purchased a very nice reissue Fender Jaguar in a beautiful blue- I believe is called lake placid blue.
I also have a '67 Vox MKIII in sunburst and a couple of other nice guitars. However, I've always dreamed of getting a Ric. I remember, as a kid, spending hours staring at the 620/12 on the cover of "Damn the Torpedoes" !

Any pics you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Christopher!

Lake Placid Blue was a legendary Fender Custom Color back in the '60s. It was named after a Winter Olympics site (1964?)

Those Japanese Fenders (especially the Jaguars, which I've got a jones for, at only $710.00!) are very well finished. All you need is a set of original pickups!

Thanks for the welcome, Paul.

BTW, I noticed that I wrote 660 in the subject line - I meant 620.

Welcome from me too, Chris! Seems like 'lurking' around here before posting is a bit like an apprenticeship!

Frankly, it might be a little intimidating posting here after a bit of lurking. There is obviously a great deal of expertise and experience in this forum when it comes to Rics. I would think some newbies might be hesitant to post questions that are obviously of novice calibre. As I've mentioned in a previous posting, I have been a "dyed-in-the-wool" folkie for so many years, playing traditional, acoustic based instruments. Electric was a slightly dirty word for many years in the circles I frequent (like Dylan at Newport). The tone of this forum though is great, no condescension and despite the obvious collected wisdom, you don't make people feel like a 14 year old in their first music store visit. Good on ya.

I remember what it was like, Bill. I didn't have a Rick at that stage and asked some pretty dumb questions about Bigsbys, necks, etc. I was ducking for cover as I hit the 'Post this Message' button.

Felt like a real nong, I did! However, I was made to feel very welcome and soon became very comfortable in the company of all these gurus!

Bill, we can always be condescending if you'd rather...

Christopher, here are pictures of my stripped-down 620/12 MID and 620 MID:

Hmmm...I do like the Midnight Blue but after much thought, I may have to go with Jetglo or Mapleglo - they just hit me as very classic Ric.

Is Fireglo not "Classic Ric", Chris?

Buy it before someone else does.

Ahhh, Howard...Fireglo is perhaps the MOST classic Ric finish. However, I was reserving that one for a 620/12 :-)
