Screw in the UK
Hi Guys,
anyone know where ( or how ) I can get the hex head replacement saddle screws in the UK?
It's getting tiresome having to remove the bridge on my 4001v63 to adjust and I've been experimenting with various strings and gauges, so there's been a lot of adjusting!
thanks in advance

Alistair, these are properly termed Allen head screws, or socket head screws. They are size 4-40. They should be available at a larger hardware or auto parts factors'.
One problem--the standard finish on these is black oxide. Rickenbacker's are chrome plated. But stainless steel ones are close and much tougher. While you're at it, pick up the proper sized Allen wrench, too. The only way the sockets in the heads can wear out is if you're using the wrong tool to adjust them,

Wints: How 'bout "Why don't we do it in the road?"
Points out the cryptic nature of the title whilst keeping privileges intact AND providing a Beatles reference!!!

Paul,
I can't think of any large hardware stores. The best I came up with before posting was B&Q (diy/hardware) and Halfords (auto), but neither seemed to stock anything not in metric sizes, nor as exotic as allen headed.
Any specific stores you can think of?
Wints,
no, not cryptic, just trying to draw a bit of attention to the problem. now if it had been "screwed in the UK" then we have a nice inverse resonance with the lack of screw situation (screwed yet no screw) more emphasis on the difficulty in finding the part (screwed!) and a subtle overtone of 'we have to pay too much for everything over here' (once again 'screwed')
but I wanted a nice quiet bank holiday weekend so I didn't write that.
everyone else,
: )

Alistair--my fallback is always McMaster Carr here in the USA. Biggest hardware factors in the universe. They're online at www.mcmastercarr.com of course. They do ship internationally, but you'll have to buy a box of screws (100) at about $12US for the stainless versions. Send me a koala pelt and I'll get you some. Howard's already working on my baby wallaby tooth. Vicious buggers, those mommies.
I posted awhile back with the part numbers on these. Check the threads. It was in Vibrola. Title was something like "Help for my bridge screws."

Alistair,
Give WD Music go:
http://www.wdmusicproducts.co.uk/
I can't see any of the screws You need on their pages...maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
You could contact them anyway in case they have them or can get them.

Thought Ali was in the O.Z., Aitch. If he's in the UK, he can send a crock of Gentleman's Relish.

Alistair,
I've got some I'd be glad to send you(remnants from converting bridges to old style with roller saddles or just the old screws), just pay the postage and they're yours.
Shoot me an email if you still need them.

getting back to screw(s)......I am looking for four flathead screws that go in each corner of the toaster pick-up. A guitar I bought had them missing on one pick-up and the only ones I could get from Rickenbacker parts is the phillips head (crosstop) type which does not look original. Help?
There is no Golden ticket....it's about the work.
