Any time I hear someone bag on Collins as a drummer, I point them to Not Good Enough - See Me! from Product.

I've loved Percy Jones' playing and sound for years. Below is a link to some of his stuff (there's some video available as well):

As for album covers: much of Roger Dean's Yes stuff, Zep's Physical Graffiti, Brain Salad Surgery, Selling England By The Pound, Trick Of The Tail...I could go on and on.

I became interested in playing fretless because of Percy! I have seen Brand X a few times; in recent years they are Tunnels. Here are a couple of pics of Percy and us from last November when my band, Rare Blend, played with Tunnels in Baltimore.

Dang, Jeffrey...I'm envious! Never have gotten to hear Percy live. He's one of the most gifted bass players the gods have ever shared with us...not just physically, either...the guy's ear is phenomenal, as is his imagination. What a great time you guys must have had...

...yeah, This time round Percy and I talked about our aches and pains from growing old! Percy is really a very nice guy, pretty quiet for the most part and most definitely an awesome bassist to see live.

I am amazed that Percy can play the things he does on his bass as the strings are about 1/2" off the end of the fingerboard. I had the most difficult time trying to play it. Then there was the time I played Gary Willis' bass and I couldn't play it either as the strings on it were practically lying on the fingerboard.

Hey, I just thought about this...one of my favorite albums is one I've never owned, but have a tape cassette of that's more than twenty years old. It's Espresso by Gong...produced when Pierre Moerlen, their Parisian drummer, took over the band...early '80's time frame. Allan Holdsworth is all over it...two outstanding French mallet percussionists, too. The album is just great all the way through...anyway, here's my question...I never had the liner notes, so I don't know...but is that Percy Jones on bass? I've always assumed it is, 'cause I don't know of anyone else who sounds like that...

Be very very careful about this site - http://www.allmusic.com - you can lose hours of your life down here. For example, this reference shows up Mick Taylor on guitar on this album - and Darryl Way - wasn't he in Curved Air? And Stewart Copeland was in Curved Air too, way before the Police.....

And so it goes. I bet if you chased it far enough you'd find a Rick or two

Curved Air was a great band, I didn't know that Stewart was in it.

Thanks loads, David...that is some amazing bass on that album.

I believe Eddie Jobson was the violinist in Curved Air when he first auditioned with Zappa...Frank told him to come back in a year, which he did and made the band. He went on to play keyboards in UK...their first album is right up there with Espresso, in my humble health plan...

I have that album and saw UK in 1977 (I think) unbelievable band.
