As my "ricitis" is going into overdrive, I wanted to know if anyone out there owns or has played a Laguna ?
I have been concentrating my energies on deciding on a 12-string, but, I was on a couple of sites and saw that (IMHO) thing of beauty. With the humbuckers, i wonder if it would rival a gibson 335 and be an interesting choice for blues ?
You twelve stringers out there, how hard was it to switch over ?

There's a sound sample of the Laguna over at Bjorn Eriksson's Rickenbacker Page. I've been looking at that beauty of a model recently as well.
I think it could get a really neat blues tone, actually. (Don't discount a 650/6 series in this regard either).
Switching between a 6 and a 12 has never been an issue for me. I'm a rhythm player, so all you really have to do is compensate on a 6 with more fills.

for rythm work, which is what i do mostly, do you really get a massive change in approach going to a 12 string ?
When I use my six string rics & my gretsch on early beatle rhythm work, it seems to be getting the sound. That makes sense somewhat because John was doing a large portion of the rhythm playing. What is your experience ?

I've always thought of 12 string guitar work as more of a "folk music thing"....Bruce Cockburn, Roger McGuinn etc.
I don't find a real change between 12 string and 6 string as far as a big change in arrangement. I do mostly home recording, so I'm either going to record two six string rhythm parts, or 1 12 string rhythm part - you know what I mean? Ric 12's give you that classic "sustained jangle" that everybody seems to love, but it's certainly not necessary on every song - Beatles or otherwise.
As far as covers go, I always play them "my way"....I've always found trying to exactly duplicate a song/artist sound to be pretty pointless, since I'm not in Las Vegas.
