4001V63 -vs- 4001CS

Post by bottom4 »

Other than the cosmetics (cream color) is there anything really different about these two basses. I'm looking for info on the sound, weight, feel etc.

I current own (original owner) a (1985) V63 and for some reason beginning to look for the CS. Need some help!

I've played a V63, and own a 4001CS. Not sure why, but I prefer the 4001CS. Of course, the V63's I played were both (I think) about an '89-'90 vintage. I should add, I removed the magnets on my horseshoe, so that was a factor in playability. I think they're very similar, although the body on the 4001CS is tapered more than earlier V63's (check out the '88 V63 on 'Pick of the Ricks' to see what I mean). Neck seems a little 'chunkier' on the 4001CS; I don't know if I would say it's better or worse, just different. Maybe one day I'll add a V63 or C64, but I'd NEVER sell my 4001CS. It's the best sounding bass I've ever heard, and my band agrees.
