Ok, no brass nut! I'm gonna mess around with the settings a bit. Worstcase, I can always take it to Erik! Just for grins, here it is. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=7315701318 . I didn't mention before but the wring was really messed up. There were grounds going to outputs, thus the neck bridge didn't work at all.
Also... you should be able to dig in as hard as you want. It's all a matter of set-up of your bass (string height, pickup height, etc.). One of the things I love best about my 4003's is that the scale length gives the perfect tension when I pluck just in front of the treble pickup, and I dig in like crazy. It can be done, probably just a little adjusting, if any.

I've recently tried John Hall's recommendation of mixing plain ol' inexpensive Turtle Wax 50 / 50 with water. Get enough on the soft rag and rub in a circular motion in a speed that will let you see air bubbles form in the mix as you are applying it to the guitar and that you can get it wiped up before it is completely dry.
I was very pleased with the result...and I used to only use Meguiars carnuaba cleaner wax.

"I couldn't find a Ric of any model in LA for under 1100 bucks"!
There is an '80's 4003 in the Guitar Center in Brea, CA for under $900 that looks like it's in nice shape, but it's hung too high on the wall to see any real detail. It's a very light fireglo or autumnglo finish (hard to tell from the lights). It's hung too high on the wall to see any real detail. They have even come down to earth (somewhat) on the red 2030 they have, also going for under $900 now. They originally priced that red 2030 for over $2000
