I always thought songs like "Where the Streets Have No Name","In the Name of Love... sounded very p bass-like.

You probably are hearing P-bass on those songs... Mr. Clayton quit using that Ibanez very much after about their second album.

As for "Sunday Bloody Sunday", listen to the Live at Red Rocks version, and that's the MC924.

Dunno about that. I will have a Rick on stage and switch basses every now and then and not just leave it as a backup. But if this turn out how I want it it'll be the war horse. (And I'll get another with wood strips a la Les Claypool's Rainbow bass. Then a 3 octave fretless.) Of course it'll take less time to get a new standard rick than one of those, but that is all custom.

Sounds cool, Nate. Let us know how it compares to a Rickenbacker. I've tried a few other types of basses - most notably an extended affair with MM Stingrays - but I keep coming back to the 4003 as the "perfect" bass for me, in terms of feel, sound and look. Keep us posted!

If I can get the active EQ to get me a punchy high end with a ballsy low end then I'm set. I want it to be like a Rick but with a more traditional shape. I doubt it'll have the growl of a Rick but I do want a clean electronic sound.

I would try a MM stringray but I'm not a fan of one pickup at all. I'll get a P bass but that is to just have a P bass. If I would get a Stringray I'd add another Pick up. As you can see I wanted 3 jazz split coil Barts on this thing. 3 to just get as far away from one without getting silly.

I ordered this thing in April so I'll have to wait til maybe December before it's finished.

The 24 fret board will be nice. I play along with Dave Gilmour's guitar solos sometimes and I run out of notes on my 4001. Of course he has 6 strings to work with.

My only problem with my 4001 is the bound edge. Cuts into my arm. I'd rather have an "S" bass. The contoured body would be better for me.
