The Bacon book got the date wrong. The MapleGlow guitar in the book is a 1966. It's the earliest lefty 300 series I've seen. There's a 450-12 MapleGlow from '66 out there are well that I used to own. Cool guitar, but tiny neck width-wise.

All of the 6 strings I have seen from that 1967 run have the block as well, including my 370-6 BurgandyGlow (above) and a 335-6 JetGlow that I can't find the images of at the moment.

I think they sound great with the additional block. The other 12's I've had all sounded more alive than the MapleGlow one.

I love that guitar. I owned it for a few years, but was afraid to play it, it was so nice. I have some nice shots of it somewhere. I'll scan them and email them to you when I track them down.

I can remember Craig Brody having a '66 360/12LH in Fireglo in the early 90's (at least he said it was a '66) for $2500....those days are long gone, LOL...

Craig didn't know how to read Rickenbacker serial numbers in the early 1990s.

The other 1967 FireGlows I know of are a matching 6 to your 12, and a 6 and 12 pair. I owned all three of them from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s. So I'm fairly sure the guitar Craig had is the one you now own.

Yeah, those days are over. You got yours from Dale, so it's probably just about worth what you paid for it a couple of years ago.

Scott, could you please explain the "convertible block" feature in a bit of detail for those of us who are relative newcomers to the Rick fold?

The block is where the arm-mount goes on a 366/12. You screw the arm-mount through the top into the block.

336-12 and 366-12 instruments had this block.

The instruments destined to possibly be Convertible models had a different internal routing that left an additional block of wood inside the guitar near the sound hole. The post that holds down the comb arm on a convertible model screws in to the body and into this additional block.

As it is a part of the top of the guitar and glued to the back, this block makes the instrument more solid, giving it a bit more sustain.

Scott are you refering to me or someother Dale who sold Craig the Lefty Rick.. The last Rick I sold was in 1983, so maybe you are speaking of another seller.

Dale Rabiner is a good guy..likes the high-line stuff if I recall correctly, like D'Angelicos and D'Acquistos, leftys...<whew>

I think he helped put a book out on these a while back..
