Guitar Cabinet Recommendations

Post by admin »

I have a Traynor YCV-40A combo tube amplifier with a 12" Vintage 30 Celestion Speaker. This is a very nice 40 watt amplifier, however, I would like to add a speaker cabinet to it. The ouptut for the speaker cab is 8 Ohms. Is there any way, through electronic trickery that I can add a cabinet using two 12" 8 Ohm speakers?

No, it would either be 16 or 4 ohms. Trade the speakers for either 4 or 16 ohm speakers.

As I expected Bob. Outside of parallel or series wiring, I could see no other option. Looks like a single 12" cabinet is on the horizon.

Doesn't Traynor make a matching 1x12 cabinet?

Yes they do indeed and this is an excellent point Dave. I have some speakers sitting around, however, that I would like to use.

I realise this is a moot point as you need 4 or 16 ohm speakers, but I keep seeing these empty cabinets on ebay...

He makes 1x12, 2x12, and 4x12 variations and they look very cool. Lots of colour options and reasonably priced.

Thanks Dave. That great $99 deal is $200 at my door with all the dents too. I love the look of these cabinets though. Time to visit my friend with the workshop I guess.

Yes, just have someone build a single 12" cab and use one of your speakers.
