How common is my Ric's color...
Hello from Finland.
I'm a proud owner of 4003S, yearmodel 1987 (#AO 9860).
It's mableglo with black hardware.
I have seen only once one of a kind in some picture.
Does anyone know any others with same color compination.

I think I've seen one or two mapleglo/black hardware guitars on The Rickenbacker Page. It's not that common, I think, but there's a few of them out there.
I think there's still a jetglo/black hardware guitar for sale on the Ric Page. I'd wager THAT is a very rare colour combo - and not exactly the most attractive one at that.

I think it is fairly common ...This was done from the 1970's when the black nameplates and black guards started.
Brian Carman added the black hardware to go with the plastic components .He was there running the plant for about ten years .
Brian's personal bass had black plastic for awhile ....this was well received in the USA.
I do not think that it is done anylonger .

John,
Here is a 2002 Desert Gold 4003, w/BT.
http://www.pickofthericks.com/2002_4003bt_desert_gold.htm
Looks odd to me, though the retailer is worth of maximum trust.
All the best,
Jean Lançon

More about my Ric.
Stil wondering the combination mapleglo with black hardware.
Yes, I have seen many white, red and blue ones with black hardware, but none like mine. It looks just the same, like that 2002 Desert Gold 4003, but the color is mapleglo.
Right serial number of my Ric is A0 2980 (january 1987). It has stereo output, so is it 4003 or 4003S?

During the 80's-90's, this was quite common.
I am the former owner of just such a bass- a 4003, Mapleglo, with black trim… frankly, I liked V63's better, but didn't know they existed the day I bought this one.
Herbie, how do you know yours is a 4003S, and not a 4003? Are your inlays dots or triangles?

The ideal mix leaves the bass player louder than the rest of the band put together!

Herbie, have you seen this on eBay:

Is this similar to your bass?

Herbie and Sea Green: Here is the 1992 4003 BT. Let's see if it breaks the $1400. mark.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
