Saw Pink Floyd at Earls Court Hall for the initial "Dark Side od the Moon" tour in 1973, then capped it again when I went home at the Hollywood Bowl. The was the days -- little money and no responsibility....

I never saw Floyd, my dad did twice, '88 and '94 tours. He got back stage both time but only got his ticket signed by Dave and Nick in '88. I saw Waters on his "In The Flesh" tour. Amazing show. Can't wait to see it on Tv and DVD.

Never thought I'd see Roger Waters and David Gilmour on the same stage again. It's good to see they can put their petty bickering away for a greater good. Not sure which one deserves more credit. From what I've read, they've both been pretty much idiots.

Personally, I like the grooves from Momentary Lapse of Reason better...Tony Levin is a far better player than Waters. In fact, a lot of the bass playing on Gilmour's solo work is far better than anything that Waters did. I think they'd be better off telling Roger, "No thanks, Mate" and seeing if Levin was available.

IMO, of course!

Seriously, the above is a little bit of a Roger Waters bash, but I did feel Levin fit in well, and it's a pretty badly kept secret that any fretless stuff on PF albums was done by Gilmour.

(The joke is, I prefer the Clash and the Replacements and the Pistols and the Jayhawks, not BIG BOX bands like Floyd, but, here comes the fire)

You miss the point BIG TIME; it's not just the musicianship, it's the "artistic vision", for want of a better term. Pink Floyd was all Waters, post-Barrett. Without him, they were a very good rock band, but would never have reached their heights if Waters had not steered the ship.

Craftsmanship is important, but it can never replace vision.

(There, not so bad. Imagine what an actual Pink Floyd fan would answer back with?!)

OK, if Waters was so important to the "vision" of Pink Floyd, why do I feel like I'm listening to a Pink Floyd album when I listen to David Gilmour's solo work?

Personally, I think that everyone's input was important, but without Waters they would have still been great.

Oh well, I'll never be convinced that Roger Waters was ever really that good. When I listen to his solo work I don't feel like it sounds like PF at all...

I only saw The Floyd once, it was at Bristol on the last night of their Dark Side tour in '73, just awesome.

Does anyone know what happened to that rather nice Ric fireglo that Waters used on the first album or so?

It had major neck warp Bob and disappears around late 68. I am back in the U.K. in a couple of weeks to do some investigation work to see if my green monster bass has a connection....

I think the last time they showed that was on the back of the Ummagumma album. All of there equpiment is scattered out and Roger's Rick is in there.

Roger was Pink Floyd. With out him they're just Floyd. And Dave played bass maybe 45% of the time. Rog did the rest. Although some of the best bass lines are Dave. Listen to "Stay" on Obscured By Clouds. That bass line is way too good to be Roger. The fretless on "Hey You" was Dave. When they did "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" live Roger played a Strat. Their backup bassist played the busy bass on that song.

Ed, Tony Levin is way better than Rog but I like Guy Pratt more. He overplayed bass on the '88 world tour and on "The Division Bell" album and tour. Pratt added a bass solo in "Money" and "One Slip" and a quick slap solo in ABITW2. Great player, ****** singer. He sings with an accent.

I'm looking foward to them doing songs with Roger singing. They better do "Echoes"! Alough, they did that in the first few show of the '88 world tour and the fans were too loud to hear it so they stopped playing it.

I know I'm going to get bashed for this, but...after "Piper at the Gates," they lose me. I just don't get it.
