Maybe the lefties are longer simply because of the size of the "R" at the tapering end (as opposed to a little "r" on a righthanded model).

I think you have a good point there. Didn't even think about it.

The only thing I thought was that maybe it was a nameplate for a 4003/5 or 4003/8, but figured these were rare enough, let alone being a LH model.
