Ron, back to the topic for a moment;

I spent $990.00 for a new one, $1500,00, $2,200.00 and lastly $2800,00. $3 to $4 K is now the going price. I think it will not stop increasing.

Damn! A white 4080!
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Just MHO but there is no logical reason the prices are so high, they are not rare, nor old. I think it's the name that's associated with them that drives them so high. I don't think they will ever increase along the lines of a 60's Ric which I think will become more and more valuable. Of course I'm the guy who sold two mint V63's right before they doubled in price.

Hey, I had one of those Alembic Spoilers with the Exploiter body style! Mine had a nice Flamed Koa top on it. I turned it into a fretless and replaced the electronics with a VPT setup with the Q switch, and added a jack to run the bass with an external power supply. I should have kept it. Image

Jeffrey - what potions do you use? Is there a specific chant? Do I need a wand?

I refer to "turned it into a fretless"

I forgot what incantation I used, but you do need an alembic to do it properly. You do know what an alembic is, right?

That's one of those urns you need to do magic spells isn't it?

Jeffrey;

Don't be too sad about your missing Alembic. While most of my RICs tripled in value, I am not sure if I can sell the Alembic for what I purchased it for 20 years ago

alembic, from Greek, cap of a still
1 : an apparatus used in distillation
2 : something that refines or transmutes as if by distillation <philosophy>
