Who is maria

I took the scratchplate off my 4003 this weekend to do some maintainance and in the bass pickup cavity in black marker pen was written MARIA.Any idea's on who this lady is.

I have the same problem, WHO IS MARIA?

There has been mention of names inside Ricks here before and as I recall, it was the person who completed a particular part of the manufacturing process. It appears that Maria was the dusky maiden who worked on yours.

I'm sure JH or Kenny (or lots of others) can shed some light on the reason for the name as well as who Maria might be!! Image

my 91 white 4003 is also a "maria". its written in capitals in the treble pickup cavity in dark blue marker

My girlfriend's name is Maria, Jared, and I have to tell you, she is absolutely no problem!!!

I got this answer once from Mark Arnquist:
"Under the bridge is a signature that is " Maria II" that me4ans
that Maria was the person the applied two 'coats' of paste wood filler to the
shedua center stripe and to the fretboard."

on my 77 4001 i bought new,under the neck pickup was the name maria written in grease pencil.

WHat the heck Is grease pencil?? I really do know but I haven't heard THAT term in years!

Orlando's song (Is This The Way To Amarillo) went something like "And sweet Maria who waits for me", right? Yeah, that's it.
And then there's 'Rosa' in the control cavity of my December '77 4001.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

WOuldn't it be a hoot if mfgrs named their instruments? Each one. And of course, gotta be girl's names. Only written on the inside as kind of a bad secret!

I just recivied an e-mail from RIC saying that they do not give out that sort of information.So i guess we'll never know who maria is.And it was tony christie who sang about amarillo and maria, it is the song that is played at the stadium when we score.
